Bill Sargent - Candidate for Congress

A Galvestonian by Choice In 2004 Bill and his family moved their residence from Virginia to Galveston, Texas when Bill retired from the Federal Government. In 2006 they purchased a home on Galveston Island.

Bill has Congressional and Legislative Experience Bill worked for two Congressmen and a U.S. Senator. He served in Congressional Affairs with the U.S. Department of Commerce for twenty years, managing legislation dealing with international trade, export regulations, and tourism. In addition, he played a role in drafting legislation to revise the Texas Election Code, provisions that are now law.

Bill has also served us well as a County Official In January 2011 Bill was asked to serve as the Chief Deputy Clerk for Elections under County Clerk Dwight Sullivan. Since that time he has made major changes in the way elections are conducted in Galveston county. In this position his key goals have always been to ensure the integrity of the election process, to make the voting process easier for the voters and election workers alike, and to improve the training for, and the competence of, the election workers.

Bill has been a small businessman In the 1970-1980s Bill was a self employed real estate broker in Northern Virginia and for the past eleven years he has been the sole proprietor of a Web Development business.

Bill is a Deacon in his church One of Bill's goals is to be an obedient servant of the Lord Jesus and, to the best of his ability, to serve those people the Lord places in his path.

Bill is also a Veteran In 1961 Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for several years before attending Officer Candidate School and being commissioned. He retired in 1981 as a Lieutenant Commander.

Bill is a Family Man Married in 1977 to Jean, Bill and Jean have two of their daughters living with them in Galveston, Mary Jean and Anna Leigh. The Sargent Family (Exodus XV)

Political background Although Bill is not a career politician he has worked with them over the years. His first experience was in 1964 when he served as a leader in the Youth for Goldwater movement the the San Francisco Bay Area and during the 1960s as a leader in Young Americans for Freedom in the Western Region of the U.S. More recently he has held numerous leadership positions in the Galveston County Republican Party.
